I created some nice portraits on the west side of the state today. I wish I could show them.  A couple of other options didn’t work out. This shoe print in the snow did grab my attention – not sure why.

We had more snow today, I think it’s finally winter.

It is starting to snow. I hope it doesn’t delay my flight in the morning.

I photographed a different flower first and then I saw the shadow.

I thought it was time to search for another winter flower.

itscold

This photo comes courtesy of my phone.  I had to pull over along Woodward when I saw this sign in Royal Oak Michigan.  It does get cold in Detroit this time of year, but I think this sign is a little bit off.

Next question, do you actually want an MRI from these people?

I had my camera with me all day.

I visited fashion photographer Dan Lippitts studio for a while – nothing struck me. I did photograph some sea shells at home thinking a summer theme would be fun in the middle of winter.  Nothing good.

I ended up in my back yard again.  I do see a theme developing with the winter flowers.

I shot this image as the sun was going down. I used off camera flash along the side with a wide angle lens.  I created a lot of images.  Two are posted on flickr.

I think the flowers almost look like trees at this angle, what do you think?

I snapped this photograph of Ava as we were going out the door to pick up Kelly from a friends house.  It’s a beautiful winter Sunday -  I think we are going to go back out and play in the snow later.

hawk

Today when we looked out our 2nd floor window, someone was staring back.  With better eyesight too.

I ran to my office to grab my camera.  I put on my 200mm 2.8 lens and shot Raw knowing I might need to make adjustments.   I took a number of shots through the window screen.  I didn’t want to scare our friend away.

After I was happy with a few images I opened the screen to get a clearer shot and maybe a little closer.  The bird immediately spread its wings and flew away.  I tried to capture the flight, but all I got was an out of focus wing or two.

No award winner today. I have a feeling this image will be the extent of my animal nature photography in Detroit this winter.
